Katsuyama hairstyle (by kisetsu) available at Orientilika event

This is one of my favorite hairstyles and it is not ordinary one - every July during the Gion Matsuri, senior Maiko wear  Katsyuama hairstyle with special Gion Matsuri kanzashi that represent summer.
Apart from the ordinary hanakanzashi at known as bonten that are placed in the middle of the mage showing through on both sides.
Yes, it is true - only several weeks in a year you can spot maiko wear this amazing hairstyle!
The origin of this elaborate hairstyle can be traced back to 17th century Edo to a very famous tayuu who's name was - you guessed - Katsuyama san. She made it so poplar that it became widely worn  by married women, and only went out of fashion at the beginning of the Showa era.
