"open for business" and signals that she is now an official
member of the kagai (where geisha work and live).

Hairstyles/Wigs - Tsubushi Shimada (by Kisetsu)

You do already know about hairstyles worn by Maiko san, but what about Geiko, what hairstyles they wear and how they decorate it?
To start with, you might have read in blog that after Maiko has erikae and becomes fully fledged geiko, she switches from hairstyles that are made from her own hair to pre-styled wigs.
Tsubushi shimada style was worn by older women and nowadays is still in use by some of the older, most often natori geiko (Natori are geiko who are recognized as masters of dance or musical instrument).
Hairpins that are used as decoration are much limited to kushi(comb) and kogai stick. Geiko are welcome to add a small stylish maezashi kanzashi at the front.
So what you get in the pack? An accurate Tsubushi shimada, hud for hair color and hud for accessorizes(kushi and kogai). Maezashi not included, you are welcome to choose one of your liking from your inventory.
As always, a beautiful creation worth getting even especially if you adore Japanese coiffure.

Mizuekai 2019 coming soon!

Dear guests and readers of my blog,

Kyoto Kagai Sim is proud to present annual Autumn performance - Mizuekai. This very popular six scenes odoriperformed by geiko san and maiko san from Miyagawacho hanamachi is not only display eloquent, authentic kyo mai dances but also proudly present poetical talents of Hanafusa okiya members.

Date: 26th of October 2019
Time: 11 am slt
Taxi: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Kyoto/188/205/31

For those who are visiting my blog for the first time, Mizuekai (みずゑ會)  is the event at which the Miyagawacho geiko and maiko display the traditional performance techniques of the Wakayagi style of Kyomai dance, to the study of which their daily lives are devoted. Traditionally, the Mizuekai was the testing ground of the skills of apprentice dancers, and in comparison with the Kyo Odori dance event held in spring, it has a strong feeling of a recital at which the participants present the fruits of their committed training. As a result, it attracts large numbers of true aficionados of traditional dance, allowing visitors to appreciate performances of an even higher standard.
We sincerely welcome You, Your friends and family to enjoy the autumn performance.

In case you need any additional information or you would like Mizuekai 2019 posters, please contact Geiko Kikumaru(belliebeth resident)

Seasonal Kanzashi: Botan(peony)

Peonies or Botan were originally introduced to Japan from China during the Nara period, however it didn’t become a popular flower right until the Edo period. It is during the Edo Botan was finally acknowledged as the king of flowers, and became considered as an appropriate floral offering for the Buddha. Normally botan is associated with summer (especially early summer) as that is when the flowers bloom naturally. However, during the Edo and alter periods, Japanese have created different breeds of peonies that bloom in winter, spring, and autumn as well.
It is important to mention that this flower is also considered auspicious so you can see peony motif on many bridal kimonos as well as ones that are less formal.
Model - Maiko Kikumaru of Hanafusa okiya
This April, Kisetsu has prepared 6 different color styles of Botan(Peony) Kanzashi - Golden cream, Golden pink, Purple fade, Red Fade, Soft Gold and Soft Pink. Each style consists of 3 pieces - Hana Kanzashi (the bigger piece on the right), small kanzashi and a flower bridge with several flowers. So elaborate! And, what is important, you can wear those as a hair decoration even if you are not maiko - they suit even a simple hairdo.

Seasonal Kanzashi: Sakura

If Japan ever decided to have an official flower i think that Sakura would be announced as one of the main candidates for this title. It has been cherished and admired since Heian period when Nobles gathered to write poetry and enjoy the short-lasting beauty of the Sakura. Cherry Blossom (Sakura) with it’s distinctive notched petals, blooms though a brief period of time and is fragile. It symbolizes new beginnings, renewal (as it blooms in early Spring), beauty and the transience of life(the short period of bloom). During the early mentioned Heian era, Sakura also becomes closely associated with Japanese philosophy of mono no aware(transience of life and an appreciation for fleeting beauty).
